A recent example with the lens. I will look for recent bokeh samples too.

This is the oldest version in the F-mount, the 13.5cm f3.5 Q Nippon Kogaku, wide open.

Very underrated lens. Maybe because of the relatively small max aperture. Here's couple more with the 13.5cm f3.5 Q, AI'd on the Nikon Df.

Both these are with the lens wide open. Will look to do some at f/5.6 to demo the bokeh with 9 blades...

Mark, i pointed to BBlinks to my Flickr account. Would that not work? I used the standard 1024p wide copies, I could go back and try with smaller versions from Flickr? Thanks

Mark, I got past the issue by breaking up the post into several. I had maybe 5-6 Flickr BBCode links in the post that was not working, seems that's the limitation.

Was checking if someone's mentioned this lens and sure enough, there's a bunch of great pics from Mark. It looks great on the Df too! Yours seems to be the earliest variant, which would be 9-bladed. Here's one recently developed, but taken a few weeks ago with the 45 GN and F2SB. The film was Portra 800, converted the scan in SEP.

Find this lens very intriguing, and will need to spend time at some point understanding the GN feature. I didn't succeed in sun star pics, just got a lot of flare, but will have to try again. Film means it may be a few weeks more before I can come back with results :)

Excellent work Chris with the 135 f2. The purple aberration is part of the package. The lens is super for all kinds of events.

  • Could be a fun zoom to try one day. Not too enamored with zooms, but some are quirky enough to generate some interest in.

Well, even though I am not sure how much use i will get from the Sony 55 F1.8 FE, its good to have it as a reference lens by which to first see the fully glory of what the A&RM2 can do when paired with good glass, and second as a reference to compare my other glass performance.

Step 1 was to just go shoot the lens a little this morning. Impressive! That's how I would sum up the combo of the lens and camera! Validation I prefer MF for landscape and general shooting! :) Everything changed for me in about the span of a year. Absolutely crazy as this time last year I was off to Hawaii and took only the DF 2 AF lenses, a 12-24 and a 28-300. I am going back early next year and not sure yet what I will take but it may very well be MF glass. Perhaps an ultra wide, a 24/28, a 50-300.

Anyways, here are some goofing off shots with the 55 FE from this morning.

This next one is a 160MB Pano, 4 Verticals. Wow, did it ever bring my computer to a crawl to process, even a tone curve took 3 minutes to apply in PS.

Next test is to pit it against the 55 F/1.2 SC and 50 F/1.2 Ais and see how they fair corner to corner. Adapters seem to be a much smaller issues when one gets to 40mm and above.

Steady Shot seems good for a couple of stops on the few MF lenses I am using to experiment with.

The 1600 shots still seem rather noisy, seemingly more so than a D810. I will have to do a side by side.
